Algebra Class

Algebra-I students are learning to use algebraic expressionsto model real-life situations, and evaluate the algebraic expressionsby substituting values for the variables and then simplifying by using the order of operations.  This work has led to the solution of algebraic equationshaving one or more variables.
Algebra-IIstudents find that a relationship is an association between a set of input and output pairs defined as the domain and range, and the result can be either discrete or continuous. A functionis a special relationshipwhere each x-value in the domain corresponds to one and only oneoutput y-value in the range. The students also discover that graphs of the equations representing a function can be transformed using translations, reflections, and horizontal or vertical dilations.

Career Day

“Calling all engineers, doctors, lawyers, educators, nurses, hair stylists, artists, musicians, therapists, service members, and more!”
This year, we are excited to launch Career Day at Balboa School. This day provides students with a dynamic and tangible experience that facilitates a connection between their academic pursuits and professional endeavors in the future. Additionally, Career Day will provide a platform to develop meaningful and personal connections between our students, alumni, parents and friends.  Career Day is one way that our counselor can encourage students to explore their interests and passions as an extension of their academic program and in the process better understand themselves, their community, and the world.
Career Day will occur on the first Wednesday of each month during our assembly (9:38 am – 10:08 am). If you are interested in participating by sharing your career experience with our students, we would love to have you! Please contact Ashley Jones for more information: ajones@balboaschool.com

Gap Year In China

Balboa School graduate, El Hadji Diallo(class of 2019), participated in the Sino/US Cultural Athletic Program with the Balboa School student athletes last year. He enjoyed his time in China so much that he decided to take a gap year before attending college in the US to attend Dalian Nationalilty University. He spends his mornings attending college classes and his afternoons playing ball!

Dalian is a major city and seaport in the south of Liaoning Province, China and is considered as one of China’s most livable cities. It is the southernmost city of the Liaodong Peninsulaand is the province’s second largest city. The Shandong Peninsula lies southwest across the Bohai Strait and Korea lies across the Yellow Sea to the east. Today a financial, shipping and logistics center for Northeast Asia, Dalian has a significant history of being used by foreign powers for its ports.

We know he will gain a lot from this amazing experience and wish him the best!
